Pan MacMillan children's book entry, Jabari the Brave

BRIEF

The brief was created by Pan MacMillan,  the competition was to produce a proposal for an illustrated children’s book.

SOLUTION

I have written and illustrated my own book “Jebari the brave”.  The story is about a lion who is different from other lions because he is afraid of everything. One day a storm hits the savannah, Jebari runs away because he is afraid and becomes lost all alone in the jungle. To find his way home he must complete brave tasks such as swimming through water and climbing a tree. He becomes braver as he goes through the jungle as he does his mane gradually begins to grow. The story is aimed at children aged between 3-5 years and was created to inspire young readers if they have the courage they can be brave !

METHOD

I used minimal text as I wanted my illustrations to lead the story. My illustrations were created through a mixture of hand drawing and digital collage techniques. To bring my illustrations to life I have used digital techniques such a placing textures into my scenery and characters and pen tools to shade elements to bring the whole thing to life.
